The South Beach Study
pdfimage:
The Beach Study came about due to the fact that most existing memory conformity research has been laboratory based. Therefore, critics have questioned whether the effect sizes observed in the existing studies will generalize to situations in which the people do not know that they are in a psychological experiment. This research project has three main objectives: First, to explore memory conformity in a naturalistic setting. Second, to compare memory conformity effects of people who interact with the confederate and of people who are bystanders to the interaction. Third, to hang out in South Beach over the summer.

Order Study :
This study was designed to understand the effects of recall order on memory conformity. Results of previous studies suggest that confident people usually offer information first when discussing facts with a co-witness. However, no study has looked at recall order while controlling for the “confidence” variable. That is, to understand the effects of recall order one must examine response order without the confound that people who are confident tend to respond first. This is one goal of the present study.

Modeling Study :
We developed and are testing a quantitative model that predicts how much people's memories are affected when they hear of other people's memory reports.

Anxiety Study :
This study looks at the effects of anxiety on memory conformity.

Perceptions of Pictures :
This study looks at whether providing people with feedback on their performance in a recognition task has an effect on a subsequent task where participants are presented with information about how other people answered the same question.
